College Football to the Max

Who I am

My name is Max Mereles and I am a Broadcast Journalism graduate student at the University of Miami. I spent my fall semester capturing the experience of different college football games for my capstone project. I chose schools that have their unique traditions and seeked out to understand what makes each one of  the experiences special.

Introduction

Ole Miss vs. Tulsa

The first game I covered took place at the University of Mississippi (aka Ole Miss). The school is in Oxford and is the flagship university of the state. Ole Miss is known for having a rich tailgating tradition and promoting southern hospitality. The school is also in one of the most competitive football conferences, the South Eastern Conference (SEC).

Alabama vs. Texas A&M

Alabama is known for having the most winning college football program team in the country and plays in a stadium that can hold 100,000 people. The 18-time national champion Crimson Tide played its in-conference rival, Texas A&M, and it was a memorable experience because fans wanted revenge for Texas A&M beating Alabama last year (41-38).

Tulane vs. UCF

Tulane finished the 2021 season with a record of two wins and 10 losses and this year the team has reached 11 wins and two losses. The Green Wave is the school’s mascot, and the team has become one of college football’s greatest stories this season. The fans of the team have proclaimed that Tulane has become a “football school” after being ranked in the top 25 for the first time in 20 years.
